Enjoy Life Today! by Harold Machroli

When’s the last time I looked at the sunset
Or gazed in a babies eyes?
Let the child in me come out to play
Did nothing but chill for a while?

When did I stop looking at flowers
While walking my way to the train?
The birds are singing, but I’ve stopped listening
I’ve too much to do today.

Life keeps passing me by,
While I’m busy rationing time.
They’ll be time later on for enjoyment, you’ll see.
I may fool everyone else, but I can’t fool me.

Having goals is fine,
But what happens when I arrive?
Will I be all dried up and withered
Like an unwatered plant that has died?

Feeding solely on ambition
Is a dangerous thing, you see.
Unbalanced meals may satisfy briefly
But kill you eventually.

Life keeps passing me by,
While I’m busy rationing time.
They’ll be time later on for enjoyment, you’ll see.
I may fool everyone else, but I can’t fool me.

When’s the last time YOU looked at the sunset
Or gazed in a babies eyes?
Let the child in you come out to play
Did nothing but chill for a while?

Do you ever look at the flowers
While walking your way to the train?
The birds are singing, are you listening
Or are you too busy today?

Does life pass you by too,
While you’re busy, planning life in a stew?
Life’s a gift, its length is not ours to say.
So whatever we do, my friend, let’s enjoy life today!

Killing us dead- All we want is justice
Killing us dead – All we want is peace
Killing us dead – Equal rights and justice is all we want.
Why are you afraid that someone else might succeed?
It does matter what you say, what you said or what you’ve promised.
All we have to do is watch your deeds.
We’re tired of your apologies; you’re sorry, don’t give me your pity.
Cause we are still beaten, battered and angry.
Shut this system down reveal the whole story.
Don’t tell us; let us be all that we’re destined to be.
People are dying in the military trying to pay for an education.
Because the freedoms you have promised is not free.

THE PANHANDLER by Edwin Deloatch

Excuse me sir, can you spare a nickel or perhaps a dime?
I promise not to use it to buy any liquor or any wine.
I know that I smell bad and pardon me for being in your way
But if I don’t get something to eat, not long I’ll stay.
I once had a job like you
and a car
and a home.
But I’ll never forget that dreadful day when I left without
my phone.
They tried all day to reach me but to no avail.
They say the girl was texting when her car jumped the median
and went head on into my wife Gloria and my daughter Gail.
In an instant, they were both forever gone
And since then, I’ve never been able to move on.
I had what they called a nervous breakdown and when I got out
of the hospital I’d lost my home
My car
And my job
So here I stand and beg because it’s not my nature to rob.
I hope one day to get my mind right and get back on my feet.
I’m tired of eating out of garbage cans and living on the street.
So the next time you pass me and decide to judge me too
Just remember, what happened to me can also happen to you.

The Speck in Your Eye by Layla

You have a speck in your eye, so you are unable to distinguish and appreciate the wonderful mixture that comprises my individuality.

My brown skin, its beautifully rich hue, overwhelms your sight. As I begin to articulate, you are surprised by my speech. You are bewildered by my ability to “speak so well” with such poignant depth. If you were not so crippled by bigotry you’d be able to appreciate the brilliance of my mind, but my color is your only concern. It is due to the speck in your eye.

My garments, elegantly draping me, creates in you a misguided combination of alarm with amusement, and makes you mistakenly assume that if confronted, I will wither like a violet on dry, hot summer’s day. It isn’t until I stand firm and face your ignorance that you realize you have stepped in the path of a person instilled with faith and courage…someone not easily intimidated or ready for flight. If you were not so wrapped in prejudice you’d be able to appreciate my fortitude and nobility, but my clothes prevent you from showing proper respect. It is due to the speck in your eye.

My voluptuous image, its supple round curves, is the reason for your arrogant gaze. You conclude my body disqualifies me from membership in humanity, but these voluminous breasts, have enjoyed the caress of a passion spanning decades. These thighs are both a haven and a release.  If you were not so brainwashed by airbrushed, photoshopped magazine covers, you’d be able to perceive my mystifying femininity, but my size allows you to walk away – steeped in your own delusions. It’s due to the speck in your eye.
